    Thank you Don for an interesting and stimulating read. What strikes me, particularly in light of today’s climate change conversations, are the time-scales in your paper. The period of 40K years pre-Threshold and the period of 80K years post-Threshold. It is a remarkable scale to consider, when the emotional conversations of today’s climate discussion center on perhaps ~150 years of temperature measurements. I will be interested to hear on your theory of change in periods before and after Threshold and why the Threshold. Neil

      Neil, Thank you for your response. I plan to later add, in a Chapter 2, ideas on the change in ice age lengths from ~40K yrs to ~80K yrs. I agree that “It is a remarkable scale to consider, when the emotional conversations of today’s climate discussion center on perhaps ~150 years of temperature measurements.” Others also appear concerned about time scales. From the Essay: “In view of glacier ice graphs such as Figure 1 and others extending for many more past ice ages, scientists Muller and MacDonald write: ‘Data such as these are what led us to state … that the next ice age is about to hit us, any-millennium now.’ ”

    Very interesting thesis: An endogenous theory of ice ages. I assume driven somewhat by plate tectonics: position of land masses with regard to effects on both snow accumulation and ocean currents.

    In the last few years, I’ve read a thesis on exogenous generation of ice ages: cosmic rays and their impact on cloud formation. Asserting cosmic rays frequency changes with our solar systems position in the Milky Way. But not an endogenous construct.

    An endogenous oscillatory feedback system seems an appealing concept. What sort of reception have you received from academic climate folks?

      Keith, Thank you for your response.  I am hopeful for peer reviews as a result of this blog. This essay has had what I consider one peer review. That is by Clive Best, a PHD Physicist, who has operated a climate blog for some eight years: https://clivebest.com/blog/ July 21, I submitted an earlier version of this essay to Best’s blog and he kindly added it as “Ice Ages (Guest Post)”. In a reply he included a copy of his 2026 article “Towards an understanding of Ice Ages” that includes an Ice model driven by Northern hemisphere insolation. To Best’s blog my submittal was by copy and paste of a Word document — and important content and format features were lost. To get fidelity of content and format I decided to republished here.

      I recommend Clive Best’s blog. It includes many fine articles and guest posts.
